Thailand’s Beachside Arts Capital

Hua Hin is a popular resort city on the Western shore of the Gulf of Thailand, about 200 kilometers (120 miles) south and east of Bangkok, the country’s capital and chief metropolis. Beginning in the 1920s, Hua Hin became the very first beach resort in Thailand, and today it occupies a special place in the configuration of the country’s tourist and resort destinations.

In late 2009 and 2010, Hua Hin’s arts and entertainment scene took huge steps forward with the opening of innovative arts complexes that include Patravadi’s Vic Hua Hin Theatre and High School, Cicada Market, and the highly successful Plearnwan Vintage Village. Together with existing Hua Hin institutions such as Baan Sillapin Artist Village, the 9-year old Hua Hin Jazz Festival and scenes like the very active high-season music jams, Hua Hin and its surrounding communities have catapulted forward to become arguably the leading performing and fine arts center of Thailand’s coastal regions
