Vic Hua Hin Theatre and Performing Arts Centre

The Vic Hua Hin Performing Arts Center opened in January 2010, a project of Patravadi Mejudhon of Patravadi Theatre in Bangkok. It is a large (30 rai or 12 acres) and impressive complex located approximately 4 km South of downtown Hua Hin.

The Vic Hua Hin center features the state-of-the-art 320-seat Vic Hua Hin Theatre, the ‘Flower Dome’ (Dome Dokmai) outdoor performance space,  a ‘sculptured’ residence area called the Arts Camp, and numerous classrooms, shops, etc.

Every Saturday evening throughout the year, there are full (and impressive) performances in the Vic Hua Hin Theatre, as well as dining and performances before and after around the Dome Dokmai. Admissions and fees vary, generally between 500 and 1,000 baht. Many activities are free, and there is always a 50% discounts for students.

The campus is also home to the Patravadi High School Hua Hin, Thailand’s first ‘alternative’ high school with a performing arts emphasis, and the venue for weekend schools and week-long residential intensives.

In January and February 2010, the Vic Hua Hin hosted the Fringe Festival Hua Hin, with numerous music, dance, and dramatic performances. That festival is expected to occur again around the same time in 2011.

To reach the Vic Hua Hin Theatre from the city center intersection (Hua Hin Crossing):

1. Proceed South on Petchkasem Road for approximately 3 kilometers until reaching the “flyover” where the road splits to go to Khao Takiab or to Pranburi and Prachuab Kirikhan. Bear right to follow Rt. 4/Petchakasem Road.

2. Follow the flyover as it takes you up and over the railroad tracks, then back down to continue South on Petchkasem/Rt 4.

3. After descending from the flyover, continue for approximately 700 meters.

4. The Vic Hua Hin Theatre will be on the right-hand side, marked by an easily visible sign. The theatre itself is a large black building that is hard to miss.

The entrance driveway is a sharp right turn from Petchkasem Road. Exercise caution (and your turn signals) in entering from this direction. Petchkasem is narrow at this point, and traffic is moving fast in both directions. Be careful!
